Mistakes to Avoid During Perimeter Treatments for Pests

Successful pest management requires perimeter treatments. However, having trained technicians for many years, they have noticed problems that are easily fixed by offering an explanation of why the procedure is incorrect.

The general principle is to stay away from do-it-yourself pest control. However, you also do not want to ignore pest sightings that occur close to the perimeter of your house. To safely and successfully get rid of your pest infestation, it is better to rely on certified experts. Discover more here about how you can use perimeter treatment for pests.

Perimeter treatments for pests– Things you should not do

Below are the points that professional experts have witnessed while performing perimeter treatments.

  • Mixing directions might differ for perimeter use.

A product mixed using a one-gallon compressed-air sprayer may not be the same as something mixed for perimeter use. The idea of perimeter treatments is to apply a certain amount of the pesticide in a specific region, compared to just adding a set number of ounces, grams, or milliliters per gallon.

You have to decide how many gallons of perimeter treatment you will use for 1,000 square feet. This will help you figure out the appropriate amount of product to put in each tank mix. For example, you generally apply roughly two gallons per 1,000 square feet, and if the label’s instructions for perimeter treatment indicate that one ounce of the product should be applied for every 1,000 square feet, then half of that quantity, or ½ ounce, must be used in each gallon of product. In this case, you can figure out that 25 ounces would need to be blended into a 50-gallon tank because each gallon of water should include ½ ounce of the product.

  • Different Products Are Needed for Different Pests

Understanding what kind of pest you are dealing with is essential to using the appropriate pest control products. You are merely throwing spaghetti at the wall if you are missing this information. For example, you can be observing cockroaches in your home; however, there are numerous varieties of cockroaches, and each type requires specific products.

  • The truck tank should not be used to refill the compressed air sprayer.

The product prepared in the truck-mounted sprayer is often utilized by technicians to restock a one-gallon sprayer. This can make sense if both tank mixes are produced with the same substance. The difference between the two applications is the issue. This mistake will lead to the application of less material.

A truck sprayer and a one-gallon sprayer have different principles. You are spraying a product at a low volume and mixing it at higher levels when you use a one-gallon sprayer. A truck-mounted sprayer enables you to apply a product at higher rates while mixing it at a lower concentration. Finally, the treatment area may receive a similar amount of active pesticide, but it may be delivered in two different ways.

  • Knowing when and how to use pyrethroids.

Some technicians are unsure of the restrictions placed on the use of the chemicals at the edges of buildings. The usage of pyrethroids on the perimeter should be limited to treating cracks and crevices or spots above non-porous surfaces. Therefore, any treatment applied to a home’s perimeter above concrete or asphalt needs to be spot or crack-and-crevice treatment. In general, a spot treatment is smaller than two square feet.

When over grass, a more thorough treatment can be done by following the label’s recommendations for the distances up the boundary and out from the foundation. The types of treatments mentioned are only those that can be used in regions that need treatment above concrete and asphalt. Although there are other details, these rules provide the majority of the answers to queries about potential treatment areas.
